Key facts
- Roblox usernames allow only a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and at most one underscore, so they cannot be styled; display names are 3 to 20 characters.
- Roblox display names can be changed free once every 7 days and are filtered continuously; Roblox does not publish a full list of allowed characters.
- Roblox Help mentions beta support for Japanese characters in display names but does not list styled Latin letters as allowed, so test one style before relying on it.
- Roblox filters all chat continuously, and third-party guides report that styled Unicode is hashed or removed first, so plain words are the dependable choice there.
- Roblox display names are not unique and appear over your avatar, while the username shows with an @ prefix on your profile.
- Roblox fonts here are pasteable Unicode text, not a downloadable font file or the Roblox logo lettering.
Where fancy letters work on Roblox
Each Roblox profile field has its own rules. Open Compatibility & details on any style above to see whether your text fits.
- UsernameNo
Limit: 20 chars
3-20 characters: only a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and at most one underscore, which cannot be first or last (Roblox Help).
- Display namePartly
Limit: 20 chars
3-20 characters (Roblox DevForum announcement by Roblox staff), free to change once every 7 days (Roblox Help), and filtered continuously. Roblox does not publish a full list of allowed characters; its help mentions Japanese character support in beta and "additional character support planned"; it does not say styled Latin letters are accepted. Test before relying on it.
- Chat messagesNo
All text is filtered, and third-party guides report that most styled Unicode and many symbols are hashed or removed in chat. Plain letters are the safe choice.
- Profile About and group descriptionsPartly
The same filter applies. Third-party reports say simple symbols such as stars and hearts survive more often than mathematical letters. We have not tested this ourselves.

These Roblox fonts turn a name into Unicode styles you can copy, such as small caps, bold sans and symbols, and the page shows which Roblox fields accept them. It is for players who want a styled display name and need the real rules first, because the username never takes styling.
How to use the Roblox fonts on this page
- Type or paste your name in the box at the top. Every style updates as you type.
- Pick a style. Small caps or a plain name with one symbol is the lowest risk; check the table to see which Roblox field you are styling.
- Tap Copy on the row you like and paste it into your display name, then save once and see whether Roblox accepts it.
Worked example: a small-caps display name
Typing Pixel Fox with the Small Caps style gives ᴘɪxᴇʟ ꜰᴏx. Paste it into the display name field under Settings, then Account Info. Display names can be changed only once every 7 days, so if Roblox saves it, check how it looks over your avatar before you leave it; it will not work in the username.
What Roblox lets you style
Roblox has three places where your name or words appear, and they follow different rules.
| Place | Who sees it | Styling |
|---|---|---|
| Username | Profile, friend search, @mentions, API | ASCII only. Cannot be styled |
| Display name | Over your avatar, in chat and player lists | Filtered. Latin styling is unconfirmed |
| Chat and descriptions | Everyone in the server | Filtered. Plain text is safest |
The username is your account’s unique ID. Roblox introduced display names so that the name over your character could differ from it: display names are not unique, they appear in chat, player lists and above your character, and the username shows with an @ prefix on your profile. That split is why almost every styling question comes down to the display name.
The honest answer about fancy display names
What Roblox says
Search results for “roblox fonts” are full of claims that display names accept any Unicode font. The official material is more cautious. Roblox’s launch announcement says display names are 3-20 characters and “will still need to be verified by our filters”. Roblox’s help page on changing your display name says you can change it once every 7 days, that Japanese characters are in beta, and that “additional character support” is planned. Nothing official lists mathematical bold, script or small-caps letters as supported.
There is also direct evidence of the limit. A Roblox DevForum thread asks why Japanese characters were accepted while Latin letters with diacritics were not, which tells you the accepted set is a deliberately chosen list and not “all of Unicode”. We have not run our own tests across accounts, regions and app versions, so we can’t give you a verified list of styles that save successfully. What we can give you is a method, below.
How to test a style yourself
The steps:
- Open Roblox, go to Settings, then Account Info, and pick the display name field.
- Paste one styled version of your name, not a whole experiment.
- Save. If Roblox says the name contains unsupported characters, that style is out. If it saves, check how it looks over your avatar in an experience, not just in the settings screen.
- Ask a friend on a different device to look at it. A style can save fine and still show as boxes on an older phone.
- You can only change it once every 7 days, so pick carefully before pressing save.
If a style is rejected, fall back to symbols that are separate characters rather than lookalike letters: a star or heart next to a plain name is far more likely to be accepted than a name where every letter is a different code point. Third-party guides say the same, though they are not an official source.
Chat is stricter than names
Roblox filters all text, including chat, continuously. Third-party guides consistently report that styled Unicode is the first thing to be replaced with hash marks or dropped in chat. The reason is practical: the filter has to catch banned words even when someone disguises them, and unusual letterforms are an obvious way to try. Do not expect a bold or gothic message to arrive as typed.
If you want emphasis in chat, use words and punctuation. If you are a developer building your own experience with text labels, you control the rendering there, which is a different problem from player chat.
Where fancy text does work for Roblox players
Because the Roblox fields are the strictest part, a lot of the useful styling happens elsewhere:
- Discord server nickname and bio. Most Roblox communities live there, and a display name with a styled version of your Roblox name is allowed. See the Discord fonts page.
- YouTube and TikTok channel names and video titles. A name that matches your Roblox identity helps recognition. Both platforms have their own rules, so check each page.
- Group and clan graphics. For a banner or thumbnail you can use the lettering image maker to put styled text on an image, which sidesteps the name filter entirely.
- Username ideas. If you need a new plain username, our Roblox username ideas are original names written to fit the username rules.
Experience and group names are another place people ask about. We could not find an official statement of the allowed characters for those names, so treat them like display names: filtered and untested. Test with one style, and expect plain text to be the safe option.
Styles most likely to survive
Without an official list, we can still rank styles by how risky their characters are.
| Style | Example | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Plain text with a symbol | ★ Pixel Fox | Lowest. The letters are ordinary |
| Small caps | ᴘɪxᴇʟ ꜰᴏx | Moderate. Letters come from the phonetic extensions, not an everyday alphabet |
| Bold sans | 𝗣𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝘅 | Higher. Mathematical alphanumerics, one character per letter |
| Script, gothic, bubble | 𝓟𝓲𝔁𝓮𝓵 | Higher. Same block, plus more chance of missing fonts on some devices |
| Glitch and combining marks | P̷i̷x̷e̷l̷ | Highest. Third-party guides say Roblox strips or rejects stacked marks |
Small caps looks the cleanest at the small size of an over-head label, which is one reason it is the first style on this page.
What breaks
- Rejected on save. The name field tells you immediately. It costs you nothing but you cannot retry for a week if it saves and you dislike it.
- Boxes on other devices. Rare characters can appear as empty squares when a device has no font for them. The guide to boxes in fancy text explains why.
- Impersonation. Copying another player’s name, styled or not, is the kind of thing Roblox’s community standards cover and other players can report.
- Searching. Friends who type your name into search will not find a styled spelling, because the search looks for the letters they type. Keep your username plain and memorable.
- Screen readers. Mathematical letters are often read out as “mathematical bold small p” and so on. If a friend uses a screen reader, a short plain name is kinder. The accessibility guide covers the details.
A practical routine
Pick a plain, easy-to-spell name as the base. Test a single small-caps or symbol variant in the display name field. Keep the same plain handle everywhere else so people can find you, and use the styled version only in places that accept it. If you want a name that looks alike on Roblox, Discord and your socials, copy it from the generator once and reuse it instead of retyping.
Pick one test style, keep your plain handle everywhere else, and treat Roblox fonts as something to check against the filter rather than a promise.
