These Snapchat fonts turn your display name or bio-style text into styled Unicode letters that you copy and paste into Snapchat. They work in your display name, not your username, which has strict rules. The page gives both sets of rules and the styles that are safest.
How to use Snapchat fonts
- Type or paste your text in the box at the top. Every style updates as you type.
- Pick a style. Small caps and bold sans stay readable at the small size Snapchat uses for names.
- Tap Copy on the row you like, then in Snapchat open your profile, edit your display name, and paste.
Two names, two sets of rules
Snapchat gives you a username and a display name, and almost every question about “Snapchat fonts” is a question about the second one.
| Username | Display name | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Unique ID, used to add you | What friends see for you |
| Length | 3-15 characters | Up to 30 characters, including spaces |
| Characters | Latin letters, numbers, one of - _ . | Letters, numbers, emojis and most special characters |
| Unique | Yes | No |
| Changes | Once a year | Any time |
| Styled letters | No | Yes |
These figures come from Snapchat Support’s page on changing your username. The username has to start with a letter and end with a letter or number, and it cannot be or include a phone number. Because it can only change once a year, treat it as permanent.
How to set a styled display name
- Type your name above and tap a style to copy it. Short styles read best, since Snapchat shows names in small type in the chat list.
- Open Snapchat and go to your profile. Menu labels change between app versions.
- Open settings and find the Name option.
- Paste the styled name. Check the character count, which includes spaces.
- Save, then open a chat or your story as a friend would see it, to check how it reads.
You can repeat this whenever you like, which makes display names a good place to experiment. If you do not like a style, change it back in seconds.
Which styles suit a Snapchat name
The chat list is small and fast, so legibility beats decoration. Our suggestions, from most to least readable:
| Style | Example | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Small caps | ᴍᴀʏᴀ ʀᴏsᴇ | Clean and quiet. Looks intentional at small size |
| Bold sans | 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 | Strong, clear, the closest to a normal name |
| Bold cursive | 𝓜𝓪𝔂𝓪 𝓡𝓸𝓼𝓮 | Pretty, but thin strokes can blur on small screens |
| Bubble | Ⓜⓐⓨⓐ Ⓡⓞⓢⓔ | Playful; wide, so it eats the 30 characters in screen width |
| Italic serif | 𝑀𝑎𝑦𝑎 𝑅𝑜𝑠𝑒 | Softer, works with a heart or sparkle |
Emojis work directly, because Snapchat’s display name accepts them. A name like Maya ♡ leaves most of the 30 characters unused and is easy to read.
Captions and Snap text
Snapchat has its own caption styles inside the app. These are drawn by Snapchat, not typed as characters. If you paste Unicode into a caption, it is plain text with unusual characters, so it keeps its shape but follows device fonts. We did not find an official limit or a list of supported characters for caption text, so we are not giving you a number. Keep captions short, test the Snap on your own phone, and consider that friends on other phones may see boxes.
Bitmoji and Snapchat’s lens text are separate features and are not affected by anything on this page.
What can go wrong
- Boxes on some devices. Styled letters are ordinary characters, and a phone needs a font that has them. The boxes guide explains why older Android phones show more gaps.
- People cannot find you. Friends add you by username, not display name. Make sure your username is easy to say aloud, because a styled display name cannot be searched by typing plain letters.
- Looks like impersonation. Snap’s community guidelines list impersonation among things usernames and display names must not do, and say fan, parody or commentary accounts need to disclose it in the display name. A styled copy of another person’s name is a risk.
- Screen readers. Styled letters can be read out one by one. A short name with a plain version somewhere in your profile is kinder to friends who use them. The accessibility guide has more on how assistive tools cope.
- Phone numbers. Do not put one in either name; Snapchat blocks it.
A matching look across apps
If you use the same name on several platforms, copy it once and reuse it. Instagram and TikTok both take styled names in some fields but not in their handles, and the rules differ by field, so use the platform tables. For the kind of soft, pastel aesthetic common on Snapchat, the cute fonts and aesthetic fonts pages have styles and decorations to start from.
A simple plan
Choose a plain username you can spell out loud. Set a styled display name that is short enough to read in the chat list, and keep the real name or a recognisable word in it so friends know who you are. Leave the bio-style details, such as a longer tagline, to platforms where you have more room.
Choosing the right look for the right audience
Snapchat names are read quickly, mostly by people who already know you. That changes what “good” means. A display name only has to be recognisable in a list of ten or twenty friends, so the best styled names keep one anchor that friends already associate with you, usually your first name or a nickname, and add a small flourish.
Some patterns that work with the 30-character allowance:
- Name plus emoji. One emoji after a plain or lightly styled name is quick to read and costs one or two characters.
- Name plus context. A short tag such as a school year, a team or a city helps friends identify you, and leaves space within 30 characters.
- Nickname in small caps. Small caps looks tidy in a long friend list and keeps a consistent line height.
- One styled word. Style only your first name and leave the surname plain, so the name still reads naturally when it is spoken.
Avoid putting a phone number or an address in the name. Snapchat blocks phone numbers outright, and a public display name is visible to anyone who finds your profile. If a parody or fan account is what you want, Snap’s guidelines say the display name must say so.
Keep your username simple and use Snapchat fonts for the display name only, where styled letters are accepted.
