Key facts

  • A Valorant Riot ID is a name plus a #tagline; the name is 3 to 16 characters with no #, and the tagline is 3 to 5 alphanumeric characters.
  • Riot's developer article says any Unicode letter is supported in a Riot ID, while its player FAQ says alphanumeric; decorative symbols are not letters.
  • Riot does not say whether styled look-alike letters pass its filter, so a style in Valorant is either accepted and displayed, accepted but shown as boxes, or rejected.
  • Valorant Riot ID changes are free on a 90-day cooldown per Riot's Riot ID FAQ, and the Riot ID is shared across Riot games, so a rename usually applies beyond Valorant.
  • A bracket pair such as 【 】 uses two of the 16 characters in a Valorant name, so frames suit Discord and Twitch profiles better than the game.
  • Small caps (ᴠᴇxᴇʟ) is the style most likely to display in Valorant; bold sans and typewriter use math letters and may be rejected.

Where fancy letters work on Valorant (Riot ID)

Each Valorant (Riot ID) profile field has its own rules. Open Compatibility & details on any style above to see whether your text fits.

  • Riot ID namePartly

    Limit: 16 chars

3–16 characters, no # (Riot). Riot's developer article says any Unicode letter is supported, while its player FAQ says "alphanumeric", so letters from any script should pass. Decorative symbols are not letters. Riot does not say whether its filter takes styled look-alike letters, so test in the field.

  • TaglineNo

    Limit: 5 chars

The part after the # that makes your ID unique. Riot says taglines are 3–5 alphanumeric characters. It is not for styling: it is a plain identifier that friends type to add you.

  • Change cooldownNo

Riot's Riot ID FAQ says you can change your Riot ID for free on a 90-day cooldown. Riot ID is shared across Riot games. Policies can change, so check the account page before planning a rename.

  • Your socials (Discord, Twitch, YouTube)Yes

Styled names are accepted on these platforms, so you can build a styled version of your Riot name for your profile elsewhere.

This Valorant name style generator turns the name in your Riot ID into small caps, bold sans, typewriter and other Unicode styles you can copy, with a character count beside each. It is for players who want a styled name and need to know what Riot’s field may reject before using the 90-day change.

How to use the Valorant name style generator

  1. Type or paste your name in the box at the top. Every style updates as you type.
  2. Pick a style. Small caps reads cleanest on the scoreboard; check the character count against the 16 allowed in the name.
  3. Tap Copy on the row you like, paste it into the Riot ID name field and read the preview before you save.

Riot ID basics

Valorant identifies players by a Riot ID: a name, a #, and a tagline. Together they look like Vexel#EUW. The name is the part people see and say aloud. The tagline is a short code that keeps two players with the same name apart.

The limits below come from Riot’s support pages. Riot’s developer article says any Unicode letter is supported, so letters from other scripts should pass; whether symbols and styled look-alike letters pass is not stated, so check the field’s error message when you save.

Part Rule Role
Name 3 to 16 characters, no # What teammates see in the lobby and match
Tagline 3 to 5 alphanumeric characters Uniqueness; typed by friends to add you
Change limit Free, 90-day cooldown (Riot ID FAQ) Plan any rename in advance

Because the same Riot ID is shared across Riot titles, a change usually applies beyond Valorant. If you play other Riot games, rename with that in mind.

How to change your name

  1. Sign in to your Riot account settings in a browser.
  2. Open the Riot ID section.
  3. Edit the name (and tagline if you want a different one), then save.

Riot’s Riot ID FAQ says changes are free on a 90-day cooldown. Rules can change, so read the notice on the account page: it states whether the change is allowed now and when the next one will be. If you pay for anything to change your name, pay only after you have previewed the exact characters in the field.

What you can style

The name field is the one place to style in Valorant. Riot filters names for rules and profanity. Its developer article says any Unicode letter is supported, while its player FAQ calls names alphanumeric, and neither page lists symbols or says whether styled look-alike letters pass. In practice that means three outcomes for any style:

  1. Accepted and displays correctly. The ideal case; usually plain letters, and sometimes common letter-like alphabets such as small capitals.
  2. Accepted but shows as boxes. The game’s font lacks the glyph, so teammates see empty squares instead of your name.
  3. Rejected. The field reports an invalid name.

Because a rejected or broken name wastes a cooldown, test before saving. The generator shows each style next to a character count, so you can see how many of the 16 characters it uses.

Styles worth trying

Style Example Notes
Small caps ᴠᴇxᴇʟ The most likely to display; reads clean in the scoreboard
Bold sans 𝗩𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗹 Uses math letters; may be rejected
Typewriter 𝚅𝚎𝚡𝚎𝚕 Tactical look; also a math alphabet, so test it
Superscript ⱽᵉˣᵉˡ Letters are uneven; some capitals are missing and fall back to plain
Square black 🆅🅴🆇🅴🅻 Emoji-like; commonly fails in game fonts

Frames are a different question. A bracket pair such as 【 】 or [ ] uses two of your 16 characters, so it is a poor trade for a short name. Decorative frames suit your Discord or Twitch profile much better. The Frame menu has options like 【 】 and ⌜ ⌟, and the text decorator has more.

Name-building tips for a shooter

Valorant names are read in half a second during a round, so shape matters more than style.

  • Keep a plain core. Teammates call you by what they can say: Vexel, not a block of symbols.
  • Avoid look-alikes. Capital I and lowercase l are identical in many fonts, as are 0 and O.
  • Stay under the limit with room to spare. A 10 to 12 character name leaves space if you later want a suffix.
  • Avoid names that look like staff or Riot accounts. Impersonation is a rules issue in any Riot game.
  • Write the name you want others to type. Friends add you by typing the Riot ID, so the more plain it is, the easier it is.

For ideas, the stylish name generator combines your word with styles and frames, and the small caps generator gives the cleanest letters on this page.

Match your name elsewhere

Many players keep the Riot ID plain and put the style in other places. A styled display name on Discord (see Discord fonts), a styled panel on Twitch and a styled bio on social media all work without any risk to your game account.

ᴠᴇxᴇʟ · valorant · controller main
Riot ID: Vexel#EUW

The styled first line is decoration; the second line is plain so someone can copy it into the friend search.

What can go wrong

  • Boxes in the lobby. Rare blocks may not exist in the game font. Read why fancy text shows boxes.
  • Wasted cooldown. Saving an untested name can leave you with a broken one until the cooldown ends.
  • Hard to add. Friends cannot easily type styled letters, so share your Riot ID as plain text.
  • Different clients. The in-game font, the Riot client and the website may each draw your name differently. Check it in all three if you can.

If you want a streamer-style look, keep the game name plain and put the design in the channel. The Twitch fonts page covers what Twitch accepts.

Before you save

Treat a Riot ID change as something you get a limited number of tries at. Write the name down in plain text, decide whether you want the tagline to stay, and compare the final spelling against your other accounts. Read it aloud once: if a teammate would have to ask you to spell it, shorten it. Then paste it into the field, look at the preview in the Riot client and save only when it matches. Keep your previous Riot ID somewhere safe in case you want it back.

Use the valorant name style generator to find a style, but save it only when the preview matches, because each change starts a 90-day cooldown.

Frequently asked questions

Basics

How do I change my Valorant name?
Your name is part of your Riot ID, which is managed from your Riot account rather than only inside the game. Sign in to your Riot account settings, edit the Riot ID name or tagline and save. Riot's Riot ID FAQ says changes are free on a 90-day cooldown, so pick carefully.
What is a Valorant name style?
A Valorant name style is a Unicode letter style you try in the name part of your Riot ID. The generator only makes text. In Valorant a style is either accepted and displayed, accepted but shown as boxes, or rejected, because Riot does not say whether styled look-alike letters pass.
How do I copy a stylish Valorant name?
Type your name above, pick a style and tap Copy, then paste it into the Riot ID name field. Keep it 3 to 16 characters with no #. If it saves and displays correctly in the client, the style is accepted.

Where it works

Can I use fancy fonts or symbols in Valorant?
Partly. Riot says any Unicode letter is supported, but decorative symbols are not letters and are expected to fail, and Riot does not say whether styled look-alike letters pass its filter. Try a style in the name field: if it saves and displays correctly in the client, it is accepted. If not, small capitals or a plain name are the usual fallbacks.
Should my Valorant name match my Twitch or Discord name?
A consistent name makes you easier to find, and it helps with recognition among friends. Use the same plain core word everywhere, and keep the styled version for places where it is accepted, such as Discord display names or Twitch panels. That way people can still search for you by typing the plain name.
Does my Valorant Riot ID also change in League of Legends?
Yes. The Riot ID is shared across Riot games, so a rename usually applies beyond Valorant. A style you test here therefore needs to work in League of Legends too, and the 90-day cooldown applies to the shared ID. Check the account page before planning a rename.

How it works

What characters are allowed in a Riot ID?
Names are 3 to 16 characters with no #, and taglines 3 to 5 alphanumeric characters. Riot's developer article says any Unicode letter is supported in both, so accented and non-Latin letters should pass, though its player FAQ just says "alphanumeric". Plain letters and numbers are safe. Symbols and styled look-alikes may be rejected, so try your chosen style in the name field first.
What is a Riot ID tagline?
The tagline is the short code after the # in your Riot ID, such as Vexel#EUW. It lets many players share the same name. Riot says it is 3 to 5 alphanumeric characters, and it is not decorative. Friends type the full name and tagline to add you.
Why does my Valorant name show boxes or question marks?
The game font has no glyph for that character, so it draws a box or fallback shape. This is more likely with rare blocks such as boxed letters, upside-down text or glitch marks. Pick a simpler style such as small caps, or keep the name plain and style it only on social platforms.

Tips & limits

Should a Valorant name use a frame like brackets?
Rarely. A bracket pair such as 【 】 uses two of the 16 characters, so frames suit Discord and Twitch profiles better than the game. Put the decoration on your socials and keep the in-game name short. Frames also make a name harder for friends to type.
Which Valorant name style is the safest to try first?
Small caps, such as ᴠᴇxᴇʟ, is the style most likely to display in Valorant. Bold sans and typewriter use math letters and may be rejected, so try them second. Riot does not publish a list of accepted look-alike letters. Test it in the field before you commit.
What happens if my Valorant style is rejected or shows boxes?
Fall back to small capitals or a plain name, and keep the styled version for Discord, Twitch or YouTube. Because Riot ID changes are free on a 90-day cooldown, settle on a style you have seen displayed rather than guessing.
