Key facts
- The Among Us name box is commonly reported as 10 characters, but Innersloth's support pages did not load for our check, so the limit is unverified; confirm it in the box on your platform.
- In a 10-character Among Us name, brackets or sparkles on both sides leave only four letters for the name, so one decorative mark is the safer budget.
- Among Us draws names with its own typeface, so mathematical letters, gothic and square styles may show as blank squares while plain Latin letters work reliably.
- The Among Us in-game name is separate from your Steam, Epic, Google or console account name, and each store has its own naming rules.
- Public Among Us lobbies filter chat and styled letters may be removed; how filtering treats names is unverified, so test in a private lobby first.
- Small caps is the same length as plain letters, so it adds style to an Among Us name without spending any of the ten characters.

Limit: 10 chars

Free chat is filtered in public lobbies, and the rules differ by platform and account type. Styled letters may be removed. Unverified.
- Platform account name (Steam, Epic, Google, console)Partly
Your in-game name is separate from your store account name, though some builds may offer to reuse it. Each store has its own rules.
- Social media display namesYes
Discord, YouTube and Twitch accept styled names, so use these for the decorative version.
Sources: Innersloth (Among Us) support
This Among Us name style generator turns your crewmate name into small caps, bold and symbol styles you can copy, and shows the length of each against the short name box. It is for players who want a readable, polished name that still fits in a lobby.
What we know about Among Us names
Among Us gives you a very short name box. The commonly quoted limit is 10 characters, and because the game is on PC, mobile and console, the exact behaviour differs from one version to another. Innersloth’s support pages did not load when we wrote this, so the limit and the symbol rules are marked unverified in the box above the generator.
The lesson is short and practical: choose styles that stay readable, count characters, and try the name on the device you play on. Do not assume that a style that works on a PC lobby works on a phone.
| Part | What is reported | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Name length | About 10 characters | Unverified |
| Symbols | Varies by platform | Unverified |
| Chat | Filtered in public lobbies | Unverified |
| Store account name | Separate from in-game name | Reported |
Names that fit ten characters
Ten characters is a tiny budget, and every symbol costs one. Some ways to make a name look styled without spending too much:
- One decorative mark. “★Sus” uses four characters and looks finished.
- Small caps. The same length as plain letters but with a polished look.
- Short word, capital in the middle. “NeonPilot” is nine characters and reads clearly.
- A colour or role pun. Fits the game’s theme, for example “RedFlag” or “Vent Fan”.
Avoid long frames: brackets and sparkles on both sides leave you only four letters for the name.
Fonts the game may not draw
Among Us uses its own typeface for names. Latin letters work reliably, and many common symbols probably do, but rarer Unicode blocks such as mathematical letters, gothic or squares may show as blank squares. This is not your device’s fault. If you see boxes, switch to a plainer style. Our guide to why fancy text shows boxes explains how fonts and fallbacks work.
If you play on several platforms, set your name on each separately and check it from another player’s point of view if you can: ask a friend what your name looks like in their lobby.
Impostor, crewmate and everything in between
Names in Among Us do double duty. They are how people call out suspicion during a meeting, so legibility matters more than flair. A name that other players mispronounce or cannot read will not help you convince the room you are a crewmate. If you want to be memorable, choose a name that is funny, short and easy to type.
Do not style a name to look like someone else’s. Impersonating a friend or a streamer causes confusion and can break the rules of the lobby or platform.
Chat filtering and fair use
Many lobbies filter chat, and moderation in public matches can be strict. Names that look like they hide words may be removed or flagged. Keep your names friendly and do not use styling to dodge a filter. If you play with younger people, remember the game is widely played by children.
Where to show the fancy version
If you want a decorative version of your Among Us name, use it where Unicode is accepted:
- Discord display name, see Discord fonts.
- Streaming and video titles.
- Profile bios, next to a plain version so friends can find you.
You can also generate a long, styled form and save a short plain version for in-game use. The stylish name generator has more styles, and Roblox fonts and Minecraft fonts cover similar issues for other games.

Accessibility
Voice chat and text-to-speech make clear names important. Heavily styled names can be unreadable to some players, especially those with visual impairments. A moderate style, with plain letters at the core, serves everyone better. For more detail, see the guide to fancy text accessibility.
Naming ideas that fit the game
Because meetings are fast, the best names are ones that people can say and spell mid-argument. Short colour-based names (“Lime”, “Cyan Spy”), simple nouns (“Toast”, “Wire”), and light jokes tend to survive the chaos. Use the same name across lobbies if you want friends to recognise you, and change it if you want a fresh start.
| Idea type | Example | Characters |
|---|---|---|
| Colour pun | Lime Lie | 8 |
| Short noun | Toast | 5 |
| Role joke | Vent Fan | 8 |
| Initial plus word | K-Pilot | 7 |
Count your own characters before saving, and keep one spare in case the platform counts a space differently. If your styled name does not fit, remove a symbol rather than trimming letters, since the letters are what teammates actually read. And if the name is rejected without a clear reason, retry with plain letters first to confirm the problem is the styling and not the length.
If you play with a regular group, agree on short nicknames in advance. It saves time when someone has to be named in a meeting, and it lets you keep a fancy display name elsewhere without confusing anyone about who is who.
Use the among us name style generator for ideas, keep the in-game version short and readable, and save the long decorated version for Discord or your profile.
