Key facts
- Spotify has no font picker, so styled text on Spotify means pasted Unicode letters in playlist names, descriptions and your profile display name.
- The Spotify web player caps playlist names at 100 characters (observed 2026-10-04); Spotify does not publish this limit.
- The Spotify web player caps playlist descriptions at 300 characters, and a Spotify moderator confirmed in 2021 that descriptions were briefly cut to 200.
- A Spotify username is an account identifier that is not meant to be styled; only the display name takes styled letters.
- Spotify search matches the characters in a title, so a playlist name in styled letters can fail to match a plain-text query.
- Playlist cover lettering is part of the cover image, not the title text, so a custom font on a cover comes from an image.
Where fancy letters work on Spotify
Each Spotify profile field has its own rules. Open Compatibility & details on any style above to see whether your text fits.
- Playlist nameYes
Limit: 100 chars
The web player caps names at 100 characters. Spotify doesn't publish this, and limits like it have changed before. Long names are also cut off in lists and on small screens.
- Playlist descriptionYes
Limit: 300 chars
The web player caps descriptions at 300 characters. Spotify doesn't publish this, and it was briefly cut to 200 in 2021. Long descriptions are cut off with a "more" link in many views.
- Profile display namePartly
Editable from the profile page. Styled letters generally display, though how they appear in search and share cards varies. Your Spotify username is a separate identifier and is not for styling.
- Spotify usernameNo
An account identifier, typically a generated string, that is not meant to be styled.

These Spotify fonts turn a playlist name, description or display name into styled Unicode letters that you copy and paste into Spotify. Spotify has no font menu, so pasted characters are the only way to style them. The page covers the limits we could verify, search effects and accessibility.
Where styled text fits on Spotify
Spotify controls its own typeface, so there is no menu to pick a different one. Styled text on Spotify means pasting Unicode characters: small caps, bold serif or script letters that already look different. That works in the two places where you type free text: playlist names and descriptions, and your profile display name. It does not change cover art, album names or any text that Spotify provides.
Spotify doesn’t publish length limits. The web player’s Edit details dialog caps playlist names at 100 characters and descriptions at 300 (checked October 2026), but these have changed before: in 2021 a Spotify moderator confirmed that descriptions were briefly cut from 300 to 200. Spotify doesn’t say how styled letters count toward those caps either, so leave a little room. The rest of the advice here follows what is true of all Unicode-styled text: it displays on most modern devices, but it changes how search and screen readers treat your words.
| Place | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist name | Free text, up to 100 characters in the web player | Styled text displays; put key words first as lists cut off long titles |
| Playlist description | Free text, up to 300 characters in the web player | A good place for decoration |
| Profile display name | Free text | Test it in the app and on the web |
| Username | Identifier | Do not style |
| Playlist cover | Image | Any font you like, via an image maker |
Playlist names that work
Good playlist names are short, set a mood and are easy to read at a glance. A few approaches:
- Plain core, styled extras. Write “late night drive” in plain letters and add a styled symbol on either side.
- All lowercase. Many aesthetic playlists use lowercase titles with no styling at all, which is accessible and searchable.
- Small caps. Gives a refined, quiet look and stays fairly readable.
- Fullwidth. Wide spaced letters suit synth, lo-fi and night playlists, but cost screen width.
- Monospace. A typewriter look fits indie, journal or study playlists.
Avoid styling long titles. A title that is truncated in the middle of a styled word is hard to understand. If the name must be long, use plain letters for the first few words.
Descriptions
The description is the safest place for creativity, because discoverability relies less on it. Use it for a mood line, a tracklist note or a “best listened to” instruction. Use line breaks sparingly and keep each line short so the “more” cut-off on small screens does not hide the point. One styled line followed by a plain sentence is usually the right balance, as it is on most platforms.
Covers are images, not text
Playlist covers are where Spotify users get real typography. Because a cover is a picture, you can use any font, colour and layout, and the title is never at risk of rendering oddly. The lettering image maker lets you type words and download a PNG in many fonts, and the graffiti generator or tattoo font generator have focused font sets. Remember that covers appear very small in lists, so large, short words in high-contrast colours work best.
Search and discovery
Spotify search looks for matching text. If you name a playlist in styled letters, a listener who types the plain version may not see it, because to a computer a bold serif “a” is not the same character as a plain “a”. Keep discoverable playlists plain, or add the plain words to the description. For private or friends-only playlists, styling does no harm.
Accessibility
Screen readers may spell out styled letters one at a time or announce them by Unicode name, which makes a playlist name unintelligible to people who use them. This is the strongest reason to keep styling light. See the guide to fancy text accessibility for details, and avoid putting essential information such as artist names only in styled text.
How to use Spotify fonts
- Type your playlist name or description.
- Compare styles in the results.
- Copy the one you like.
- In Spotify, edit the playlist details and paste it in.
- Open the playlist in the app and in the web player to check that it looks right.
Your text stays in your browser and is not sent anywhere.

Examples of styles by playlist type
| Playlist type | Style to try | Why it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Study or focus | Monospace | A calm, typewriter look |
| Night drive or synthwave | Vaporwave (wide) | Spaced letters echo the genre |
| Sad or soft indie | Small caps or italic | Quiet and gentle |
| Party or workout | Bold serif | Strong, easy to read from a distance |
| Romantic or cosy | Cursive with a heart | Warm and personal |
These are suggestions rather than rules. The best test is how the title looks in a list of ten playlists, where your title has to stand out and still be readable.
Sharing and collaborative playlists
If you make a playlist with friends, remember that anyone searching for it will type plain words. A collaborative playlist for a trip or an event is easier for everyone to find when the title is plain, with decorations only in the description. Tell your friends what the playlist is called in plain text as well, since not everyone sees styled letters the same way.
Treat Spotify fonts as decoration around plain words, so your playlist stays easy to search for and easy to read in a list.

- Fancy Text and Screen Readers: What Happens and What to DoAre fancy fonts accessible? Mostly not: styled Unicode letters are separate characters, so screen readers may read long character names or skip them. Wide text and native formatting fare best; upside-down, glitch and look-alike styles fare worst.
