Roblox Username Ideas

Original names in plain ASCII. Roblox usernames allow letters, digits and one underscore, 3 to 20 characters, so none of these use fancy text.

The rules that shape every name here

The ideas on this page follow Roblox’s username rules as stated in Roblox Help: only a-z, A-Z and 0-9, at most one underscore (not at the start or end), and a length of 3 to 20 characters. Our Roblox fonts page uses the same rules. Roblox may change them. The sign-up box will tell you if a name is not allowed.

Every name below is original and plain ASCII. None use real brands, games or people. If you find one is already taken, change a word or reorder it.

Rule Value Status
Length 3 to 20 characters Official (Roblox Help)
Characters a-z, A-Z and 0-9 Official (Roblox Help)
Underscore At most one, not first or last Official (Roblox Help)
Spaces, emoji, symbols Not allowed Official: outside the allowed set

How to build a good Roblox username

A name that is easy to read and say works better than a clever one. A formula that works for most of the ideas above is mood word + thing, joined in CamelCase.

  1. Pick a mood: cozy, neon, ember, frost, tiny, silent.
  2. Pick a thing: fox, knight, pixel, toast, circuit, falcon.
  3. Join them with capitals: “FrostHollow”, “TinyToastie”.
  4. Add one number or underscore only if needed, for uniqueness.
  5. Count characters: stay under 20, and ideally under 15 so it fits in lists.

Capital letters give you a clear word break without any symbol, and they cost nothing. They also make the name easier to read in the leaderboard and in chat.

Names by style

  • Cute and cozy: soft words and foods, such as pudding, mochi, cocoa.
  • Cool and sleek: space, tech and weather words, such as nova, vector, arctic.
  • Funny: wordplay on building, lag and obbies.
  • Fantasy: nature, weapons and titles, such as ember, warden, ranger.
  • Builders: words from crafting and studio work.
  • Y2K and retro: pagers, glitter, floppy disks and early-web imagery.
  • Short: three to eight characters, invented words that sound friendly.

Avoiding problems

Roblox filters names for inappropriate content, and it may reject words or letter combinations that look unsuitable even by accident. Avoid names that imitate staff, other players or well-known creators. Do not include personal information such as your age, school or location. If a name is rejected, try a related word rather than disguising letters with numbers, because look-alike substitutions are often filtered.

Check also that the name is easy to type on a phone. A name with a capital I and a lowercase l side by side is hard for friends to read, and so is a name with the digit 0 next to the letter O.

Username or display name

A Roblox account has a username, which is unique, and a display name, which is a separate name that is not unique. For a short summary: the username is your identity and is harder to change, while the display name is the flexible, friendly one. If you want styling, the display name is where to try it, subject to Roblox’s filter and character rules. Our Roblox fonts page lists what we have and have not verified about display names.

Changing your mind later

Roblox has limited free username changes, and a paid option has been reported, but we could not check the current policy. Because of that, think carefully before you commit, and pick a name you will still like in a year. A name with a trend word or a game meme may feel old fast.

Safety

Roblox is played by many children. Choose a name that gives away nothing about you, and talk to a trusted adult about account safety. Never share your password, and be careful with links and trades. For general help on character limits and how apps count them, see our character limits guide.

Make it yours

Treat each idea as a starting point. Swap a word for one that you love, such as a colour, an animal or a place, and keep the structure. If you are looking for names for other platforms, see aesthetic usernames, where handles and display names are separated for apps with different rules, and the stylish name generator for styled versions of names that you can use where Unicode is allowed.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Roblox username rules?
Roblox Help gives 3 to 20 characters, using only a-z, A-Z and 0-9 plus at most one underscore, which cannot be first or last. Spaces, emoji and fancy letters are not accepted in usernames.
Can I use fancy fonts or symbols in my Roblox username?
No. Usernames use plain letters, digits and one underscore. Fancy letters belong in places such as a display name, where Roblox has been expanding character support, though styled Latin letters are not confirmed to work. Check our Roblox fonts page for the current notes.
What is the difference between a username and a display name?
The username is the unique login name that cannot be changed for free once set. The display name is a separate, non-unique name shown in many places that Roblox has said can be changed periodically. Choose a username you will not outgrow, and treat the display name as the flexible one.
Why was my Roblox username rejected?
Common reasons: the name is taken, it uses a character that is not allowed, it has a leading or trailing underscore, it is too long or short, or the filter flagged it. Roblox filters names for inappropriate content. Try a different word, change the order or add letters rather than symbols.
Should I include numbers in my Roblox username?
Only if you need them to make the name unique. A few digits are fine, but a long run of random numbers is harder to remember and share. A readable word pair with one number is better than a word with six digits. Avoid including your age, school or birth year for privacy.
Is it safe to put my real name in a Roblox username?
It is better not to. Usernames are public, and young players in particular should avoid names, ages, schools and locations. Use a themed name instead and talk to a parent or guardian about account safety. Roblox offers parental controls and safety tools in its help centre.
